Something happened over the last year and a half. Well, lots of big things happened, but on a lesser note, I wasn’t able to capture content for the site. This resulted in a feeling of boredom. For the greater part of a decade, DODOlogic was my creative outlet and the pandemic really drained this machine of its creative fuel. With nowhere left to turn, I did what any man in his mid-30’s who was stuck at home would do: I got some friends together and started a podcast. In case you missed it or didn’t put two and two together, I’m Ryan from SerialPodcastNine.
The podcast helped filled the void. Instead of writing nonsense into the vacuum of the internet, I got to bounce my thoughts off of two very opinionated people who are attached to the automotive industry. So what does this have to do with City Techx Automotive Repair Ltd.’s Grand Opening? Well, if you hold on, I’m getting to it.
In my journey to fill the void created by the lack of content for DODOlogic, I forgot how time management worked. I’ve now committed myself to a lot of exciting projects that don’t always fit under the DODOlogic umbrella. And now that there are actual car events, I’m struggling to find time for it all.
There’s a sense of fatigue that comes with doing something like DODOlogic. Recently, I’ve become the thing I hate the most: A person who takes photos and does nothing with them. However, an article without words is uninspiring and I’ve been too uninspired to find the words. That is until I visited the City Techx Grand Opening.
What was so inspiring about City Techx that made me want to sit down and type out some words? Well, as cliché as it sounds, the answer is them. When I asked City Techx owners DK and Daryl why they started their own shop, they responded that they were tired of the dealership life and wanted to do it for themselves.
That answer was enough for me to want to do an article on their shop. I have nothing but respect for people branch out on their own to pursue their passion, especially if that passion is related to cars.
Darryl and DK have pretty much just started and, it seems like they’ve already outgrown their current set-up. This is great because seeing people succeed after pursuing their passion is even better.
Between the two of them, it seems like they have their hands full. Darryl seems to have a knack for the ins and outs of German engineering. And just one look at DK’s JZX100 and you can tell that’s a guy who understands Japanese cars.
The event itself must have been something special because it got my old hermit friend Jordan Dimoff to bring out his Good Vibes 240SX, a car that has been barely seen these last few years.
I only intended to stay for an hour or so, but I found it a bit hard to leave once I got there. This was partly because I parked in a primo parking spot and was worried about making a scene while trying to leave, but also because I was pretty engaged with the event. They had food, music, drinks, and more food. Even after I left, my social media feed was filled with things that I surely missed out on.
The car scene, at its worst, can be a lot to handle. At its best, you end up with something like this event. It’s hard not to see the positives when you’re around familiar faces supporting fellow automotive enthusiasts who decided to take a chance and do things on their own.
