Another beautiful day in America, another beautiful day at the track. After getting a few hours shut-eye it was back to the ol’ race track for some more drifting action for Midwest Drift Union Formula D Pro-Am Round 3.
All Amateur and Pro-Am cars went through the normal once over before the event to make sure everything was where it should be. After this the event was set to begin with Amateur’s on first then the Pro-Am drivers.
Unfortunately for Kris Hackenson, he blew his engine before qualifying and was unable to compete in this event and defend his first place standing. This did not damper his spirits though as Kris appeared in a good mood all day. Shouting random nothings into the microphone for all to enjoy.
The first round of the Top 8 saw Nick Thomas in the black S14 go up against Bryan Peters in the RX7. Nick blew a part of his clutch assembly just before qualifying and had to be push started for his qualifying runs but was able to sneak into the Top 8. Push starting his car, however, caused him to lag behind on his chase run which gave the win to Bryan Peters.
Next we had Wild Bill Cook in his red S13 vs Keith Carlos in his 350Z. Wild Bill’s strong driving all day gave him the edge and the win in this round.
Up Next was Cody Grim in his S13 vs Chris Gonzalez in his S14. These two guys ran 3 OMT’s, each run being close or they each made mistakes making it a tie. In the end a straightening out by Chris gave the win to Cody.
Next the battle of the two S13 coupes. Adam Ouziel in the red coupe vs Cody Tobe in the green coupe. Both strong drivers but Adam was able to edge the win from Cody.
The start of the Top 4 saw Bryan Peters in the RX7 go up against Cody Grim in the S13. Bryan Peters definitely had a vehicle advantage over Cody Grim as he is packing a nice little LSX engine under the hood. Bryan Peters took the win.
Next Top 4 match up was another S13 duel. Hatch vs Coupe. Wild Bill was able to pull the win out from Adam’s fingertips. Time for the 3rd place fight.
3rd Place duel was a close one but Cody was able to take the win.
For the 1-2 duel it was Wild Bill Cook vs Bryan Peters. Both drivers were very consistent and strong all day. It would have been a tough call to make but on the lead run Wild Bill went in a little too hot and….
Smoked the K-Rail. If not for his cage he would have wrapped his car around the thing. But like a true drifter, he got his car off the K-Rail and finished the course drifting, taking second place.
When it was all said and done it was time for our long journey back home. Many thanks go out to the staff and drivers of the Drift Indy Rage event and the Midwest Drift Union Formula D Round 3 event, it was a blast. I will definitely be back to take more pictures. Stay tuned to our Facebook page for extra photos from the MDU event. Also, once again, congratulations to the winners of the Midwest Drift Union Round 3 event:
