Chris Gonzalez of Gonzo Drift was tossing around the idea of going to Indiana for Midwest Drift Union Round 3. I told him if he goes, I go. So here I am, tagging along as his mechanic and documenting the adventure.
I left Wednesday, a day earlier than our actual adventure was to begin. I traveled to Winnipeg to meet up with Gonzo. Thursday started with a hearty breakfast brought to us by many of this countries fine fast food establishments.
We picked up a bunch of tires, rims and packed them into the trailer. Gonzo informed me that he had rubbed through his harness at the last event and the car was still being repaired. We were on our way to Jackson Autosport in Winnipeg to hopefully pick it up.
We got to Jackson Autosport to find the car was primed and ready to roll. We took it down the street for a little bit of a test and to check the alignment and make sure everything was good to go. As you can tell from the pictures, everything was awesome, so we loaded up and headed for the border.
This picture pretty much sums up the trip from Winnipeg to North Dakota. It was slow, boring, and confusing as we tried to figure out why so much highway was closed. Still no idea what they were actually doing.
I had never traveled outside Canada before, so Gonzo gave me some of the finer details about how the whole border crossing situation works, and how much money to slip into my passport to guarantee a safe passage. Just kidding.
This picture sums up our journey through North Dakota. There was trees, grass, and beautiful open skies.
This billboard surprised me because I honestly thought he was dead. However, a dead man can’t be on tour and playing the next day at 8pm. But I digress…
We stopped in Fargo at Tintmasters Motorsports, a sponsor of Gonzo Drift. Out front of the shop were a bunch of cars in various stages of repair, Including this RX7 which is being prepped for Formula D Pro Am.
We chilled outside of Tintmasters for a bit. They were nice enough to supply Gonzo with some spare tires to burn off this weekend. We both relished in the leg stretching time and enjoyed being out in the beautiful weather. I had the opportunity to meet a bunch of the locals and see some cool rides.
Chris would like to send a big “Thank You” to all his sponsors for helping him get everything ready and going for today.
As for now, our trip continues on our way to the Drift Indy Rage event for tomorrow and the Midwest Drift Union Pro Am round on Saturday. Stay Tuned!
Chris is really getting a lot of driving done.
How many events is Ginzo Drift planning to attend this year?
It’s really cool to see guys from Canada starting to get out to some american events.
Best of luck!
