Canada’s premier drift series, DMCC, launched its 2011 season in the west this past weekend. DMCC has been growing in leaps and bounds, while providing a venue for Canadian drivers to cut their teeth at a professional level. In fact, a few Formula D drivers got their start in DMCC. Sunday showed just how consistent the Canadian talent has become, every year the drivers of this series push the boundaries of your expectations. Round 1 in Calgary was no exception as we saw the return of a few familiar faces.
Kurtis Goat of Drift Farm returned with a new look and a new sponsor from StatusOne. Every year Kurt builds one of my favorite drift cars, and every year it looks completely different. He is is the epitome of fresh.
Aaron Day is no stranger to DODO as of late, his strong showing at Spec D events have translated into a stronger showing in DMCC. Every time I see him drive he gets better, and he was a good driver to begin with.
Chris Gonzalez is maybe one of the nicest guys in Canadian Drifting. That is why it sucks to see him have issues with new V8 setup. For those of you who do not follow Gonzo Racing on Facebook I strongly recommend you start. Chris travels all over the U.S. to drift in Midwest Drift Union which is Pro-Am series that runs in conjunction with Formula D.
Conroy Ganson traded his old Lighting McQueen look for what you see above. All I can say is now his look matches his driving skills. He has always been consistent and aggressive. The car looks amazing and I am sure we will see big things from him this season.
Devin Horsley is one of those guys who just embodies classic drifting. His love for the AE86 is nearly unrivaled, and he always manages to have fun no matter how high the stakes. To be honest, I have no real new information about Devin other that he has a new hat that I had never seen before this event.
This season also saw the return of fan favorite Alex Lee. As many of you know, Alex doesn’t rep that windshield banner for the look but rather because he drives in Formula D. Watching Alex drive is something else, how he manages to finesse those four doors is beyond me. He will be returning to compete in Formula D – Round 5. If you have not already, please visit him at http://www.alexleedrift.com/ and don’t forget to like him on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/?ref=logo#!/pages/Alex-Lee-Drift/137472102982613
At the end of the day this is how the podium looked for DMCC West Pro division. Kurtis Goat took first place, followed by Conroy Ganson and third went to Jon Schildwachter. Kurt was the Cinderella story of the day, after a rough surface tore some of his car apart, he was forced to do some welding in the pits. He nearly missed his qualifying runs. He made it out with seconds to spare and the rest is history. Congrats to all the drivers, we are all looking forward to unreal season of DMCC West!
good god, spell check.. my brain hurts.
Sorry about that. Everything should be fixed up now.
