We promised our readers more weekly fixtures in the new year and Monday mornings is the perfect time to install a fixture on a blog. So I present to you the ‘Monday Morning Rundown’. Every Monday morning I will try and present to you interesting tidbits from the Automotive world. Whether it be results from the racetrack over the weekend, what is happening behind the scenes in the paddock, or even spy shots of cool stuff.
OK, let’s get this started……
Word on the internet (Facebook) is that there will be DMCC in the west this year. New sponsors are on board and the schedule looks to open and close in Calgary with stops in Penticton and at Stratotech in St. Albert. It sounds like DMCC will be announcing it’s plans for the season for both the east and west very soon and we will have all the info here at DODOlogic.

Keeping it on the topic of drifting in Western Canada there has been a discussion on Driftwest about a “Battle Royale” between drivers from British Columbia and Alberta with their cousins from out east in Saskatchewan and Manitoba tagging along for the ride. Right now the thread is at the page-63 mark and to be honest with you I am not even sure what is even being discussed anymore. I think what I extracted from it was that it was going to take place in Penticton on the weekend of June 11th. If someone has any definite answers or info on this please drop me an email and I can pass the details along.

Looking south of the border, both Formula Drift and XDC released their 2011 schedules this past week. The only change on the Formula Drift circuit is the removal of Sonoma. Palm Beach International Raceway in Florida will now host Round 3 on June 4th.
Formula D 2011 Schedule
April 9th – Streets of Long Beach
May 7th- Road Atlanta
June 4th- Palm Beach International Raceway
June 18th- Wall Speedway (New Jersey)
July 23rd- Evergreen Speedway
August 27th- Las Vegas Motor Speedway
October 8th- Irwindale Speedway
XDC on the other hand has almost completely overhauled it’s schedule and track selection for 2011. Probably the biggest news for us Canadians is Round 7 in Montreal on the Labour day long weekend. Pretty cool stuff.
XDC 2011 Schedule

April 22/23rd- Firebird International Raceway (Phoenix, AZ)
May 14/15th- Central Florida Racing Complex (Orlando, FL)

Now for some news from overseas. I read back in December on 7Tune.com that Daijiro Inada and Keiichi Tsuchiya were walking away from D1GP due to differences in philosophy with the series organizers about the direction of D1GP. In case you were wondering who these two guys are, Inada is the man who brought Option Magazine and Tokyo Auto Salon to the masses. That Tsuchiya dude is the ‘Drift King’ or something. Both these guys, together, pretty much invented professional drifting. They started the D1GP series, so for them to leave is a pretty big deal.
7Tune.com interviewed Tsuchiya recently and he stated that he is starting a new professional series that will compete with D1GP for drivers, sponsors, and spectators.

For the Rally fans, the Dakar Rally is nine days into it’s 15-day schedule down in South America. I really wish we still got it on TV up here in Canada but I guess OLN would rather show re-runs of Dog the Bounty Hunter. Anyway, Carlos Sainz is leading the ‘Cars” by just over a minute. You can watch little clips of Versus’ coverage @ http://www.versus.com/shows/dakar-rally/

Rally America Starts up in just a couple of weeks with SNO*DRIFT. Of course the dominant Travis Pastrana is now driving NASCAR so he can’t make it. Pastrana’s departure opens the door for the next up-and-comers to make a name for themselves.

MINI is making it’s return to WRC a year ahead of schedule. Prodrive is developing the car and is confident in campaigning it in select rounds of the 2011 season which starts in just over a month in Sweden.

FIAT looks to be that much closer to making it’s entry into Canada. Dealers have been chosen and they have a flashy new website: http://www.fiatcanada.com/

Well that is all my tired brain can muster up for the inaugural ‘Monday Morning Rundown’. I promise I will try and include at least a couple of pictures in the future but to tell you the truth, this is supposed to be about the words.
If you have any ideas, suggestions or just want to correct me on something I obviously don’t know anything about, leave a comment or send me an email at dave@dodo-logic.ca

With Inada and Tsuchiya leaving, I hope D1GP dies. They want to keep it real and not like Formula D where only rich power houses with 800HP team built cars can compete for the podium.
Ive been talking with Shawn Browne a fair bit over the last little while and this is what he has given me for info on the Penticton ASB. You must enter as a team of 3 for the comp (it’s triple tandem). There will be a driver cap of 40, there is no for sure date yet, but it is most likely going to be in June, and from the sounds of things there should be some Washington drivers there as well. I’ll let you know when he has any more info for me.
Appreciated!
