It all started in July of 1904, five years before the first Indy 500 and 12 years before the inaugural Pikes Peak Hill Climb. The Climb to the Clouds is an eight mile long race up New Hamshire’s Mount Washington. That year, various cars between two and sixty horsepower attempted to vie for superiority over their rivals. The winner, a 60HP Mercedes setting the record at 24 min 37 seconds.
Fast foreward 106 years and people are still trying to be the best. This time, the insatiable thrill seeker Travis Pastrana attempted to beat Canadian Frank Sprongl’s time of 6 min 41.99 seconds.
