I met Chase Bushell very shortly after I got into cars. The Regina scene wasn’t very big at the time and everyone knew each other. Even back then, I was always eager to shoot, and being the guy who always wants to take photos is a good way to meet people in the car community. Over the years, I’ve met lots of people and made lots of friends, and Chase is, in my opinion, one of the best dudes in the community. He’s always wearing a big smile and having a generally “stoked” attitude towards life.
His car has been a part of the community since 2010 and it’s been put through the ringer, like most cars that get drifted. Track days and trips to DMCC events will do that to a car. It makes me very happy to see this car in its current form, instead of how most s-chassis’ end up: Bent, smashed and totalled-off, sitting in the junk yard or some farmer’s field, stripped for parts and essentially laid to rest in an early grave.
To me, his car has a “less is more” feel to it – which is a weird thing to say, since the car is far from stock with the massive BN Blister kit (+50mm front and +70mm in the rear) and the wide VIP Modular VX310 wheels (18×10-3 front and 18×12-8 rear). I think it may be because I’m so used to what the majority of cars look like on the internet now. When I think about these cars, massive wings with crazy and completely unnecessary CNC’d chassis-mounts, ridiculous camber settings and countless winglets stuck to every corner of the body are the first things that come to mind, unfortunately.
It seems as time goes by I keep getting busier and busier, and the cars I really want to take pictures of either aren’t finished completely or the owners and I can never figure out a time to get a photo shoot done. Last year I took pictures of one car, yeah one car, and it turns out this year went the same way. It’s funny because the night of this shoot, there was snow falling. I’m just glad my once-a-year “feature” happened with such a bad-ass car.
