“When love and skill work together, expect a masterpiece.” – John Ruskin
DUI – otherwise known as Drift Union Invitational for all of you that had your minds elsewhere – is one of the premier drift events in western Canada. Held every year around the beginning of July, DUI attracts folks from all over Canada and the United States. This was my third year attending and it’s one of the highlights of my summer. The 1,200 km trek from Saskatoon, SK to Penticton, BC can be long for some people, but I will always be the first to tell you to DO IT.
DUI never disappoints. In fact, it gets better every year. This year was a little different for me, as it would be my first year on the official media crew. When Ryan Benoit told me he could get me a spot, I knew damn well I had better take advantage of it. What really made it interesting for me was a few friends had planned a bachelor party for a good buddy of mine. Since the groom is building an s14 of his own, we knew it would be the perfect event for him and a nice getaway from the “hustle and bustle” of Saskatoon.
This event is usually reserved for the more experienced drivers and if you’re looking for a good show, you’re in luck! These guys killed it – tires, that is. The best part (for me) was seeing Saskatchewan guys come up with their cars and show the BC/AB boys how it’s done. We don’t have many good drift spots here and to see them hanging there with the locals really makes a guy… proud? Yes, that’s the word I’m looking for. Alright, enough with the sappy shit. What I’m really trying to get at is if you’re anywhere close to Penticton, BC around the beginning of July, go to DUI. The drivers rule, the atmosphere is hype, the weather is nice and who doesn’t like 5+ car drift trains?? Enough with the jibber-jabber – on to the photos!! MC-out.
P.S. Huge shout-out to Shawn Browne for hosting the event and keeping us constantly entertained!
