1. Formula D up to Old Tricks in Orlando
Ryan Tuerck and his Scion FR-S claimed the top spot on the podium in Formula Drift’s latest battle, Round 3: Uncharted Territory. Held at Orlando Speed World, Chris Forsberg and his 370z took 2nd and Ken Gushi and his FR-S earned 3rd. Read more about the event here. 2. Formula 1 Grand Prix du Canada
The world’s premier racing event took Montreal, Quebec by storm this past Sunday. Mercedes came out on top with gold and silver winners on the podium: Lewis Hamilton in 1st place and Nico Rosberg in 2nd. Williams was next with Valtteri Bottas in 3rd position. Get the lowdown on the race here.
3. Do You Have Takata Air Bags?
The Globe and Mail reports that more than 1.5 million vehicles have been added to the list of recalled vehicles due to faulty airbags. This is added to the nearly 34 million airbags considered defective in the U.S. What’s more, the Globe says owners might have to get repairs done more than once.
The Globe reports the air bags, made by Japan’s Takata Corp., could explode and release metal shrapnel if deployed. They have caused more than 100 injuries and six deaths worldwide, but no reports in Canada yet.
Affected vehicles include Honda Civic, Accord and CR-V, Dodge Ram, Chrysler 300, BMW sedans and X5, Ford Ranger and Mustang. Most models are from 2001-2011, but some newer models are included as well. 4. Former Top Gear Hosts Could Be Coming to Netflix
Rumours are flying that Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May could be making a new show for Netflix.
The world lost its mind when the BBC chose not to renew Clarkson’s contract earlier this year, following allegations of Clarkson punching a Top Gear producer and making racist and sexist remarks. In a recent interview, Clarkson says getting the axe from Top Gear was “my own silly fault.”
The Daily Mirror says the BBC reportedly offered Hammond and May multi-million dollar deals to continue filming Top Gear, but they are likely to decline.

5. Countdown to Drift Union Invitational
This might not be global news, but we like it just fine. As of June 1, new teams can register for this year’s D.U.I. event – held June 27 and 28 in Penticton, Beautiful British Columbia. The competition is considered the best drift event in western Canada. Registration for teams who drove in last year’s event opened on May 15 and single drivers can register starting June 15.
6. Tesla Breaks Dynamometer During Testing
A video has been making the rounds showing a Tesla Model S P85d breaking a dyno during testing. The car’s impressive performance has some doubters coming over to the electric side of the fence.

7. Lamborghini to Release Luxury SUV
Just over a week ago, Lamborghini announced plans to manufacture the Urus, a luxury SUV. The Italian carmaker is the latest elite brand to join the luxury SUV trend. Lamborghini was acquired by Audi (which is owned by VW) in 1998.
It seems The Telegraph was on point when it predicted that 2015 would be the “Year of the SUV.”
8. Rallycross Results
RedBull Global Rallycross in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida: The May 31 event saw Ken Block, Hoonigan Racing Division, earn 1st place with a total time of 5:07.288. Roughly 3 minutes later, Scott Speed with Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross, took 2nd place. Nelson Piquet Jr., SH Racing Rallycross, took 3rd. The next event happens June 20 at the Daytona International Speedway.
X Games in Austin, Texas: The June 6 event saw Scott Speed earn gold with a total time of 6:20.843. Steve Arpin took silver and Sebastian Eriksson claimed bronze.
