For years, Chris Gonzalez from Gonzo Drift has been trying to lock down a track for him and fellow Winnipeggers to shred on. Chris has held demos in Winnipeg, but drifting in a parking lot is just not the same as a road course. Although Gimli Motorsports Park has been open since the early 70’s, it didn’t hold its first drift event until this year. As soon as we arrived and got out of the truck, you could tell that everyone was excited to be there. Events like this are a step in the right direction to getting drivers off the streets and onto a safe and legal place where they can do as they please. Anyways, here is the second and final part of the coverage consisting of photos from the aforementioned road course. Enjoy!
We thought it was funny when Max with the AE86 said it was too bad they had to drive so far to get on a track – as Zimmer and I stood there, 6 hours away from Regina, Saskatchewan. Gimli’s track is pretty much the closest road course to us here in Saskatchewan, with Edmonton being second. I would say they have a pretty good thing going; it’s something every driver in Saskatchewan is sure to be jealous of!
Not pictured in the first part of coverage was Mike McIvor and his S13 – another driver who showed great skill that day!
I was able to steal Gonzo’s ATV and take a ride around the 1.3 mile track to scope good spots to take pictures. While doing so, I couldn’t help but think what a blast it would be to grip-drive the track in it’s entirety. Maybe it will be something to look into once my car is back on the road.

How could I forget the 10-car burnout that commemorated the day. You don’t often see 10 cars lining up and roasting their tires. Props to Gonzo for the idea! Onto the pics…
