“I’ve been waiting for this day for years,” said Drift Farm’s Kurtis Goat as we headed up the mountain behind Penticton Speedway. He was referring to the day when all of Drift Farm’s cars matched, following the same color and livery scheme. Until this year, it hadn’t happened. So, it was a must for me to capture Kurtis (S13.4), Curtis Gilbert (180SX) and Dustin Brewster (Zenki S14) driving as a team for the first time at the Drift Union Invitational. On the first day of the event, we got some pictures before the sun fell behind the mountains.
I’ve been following Goat’s S13.4 build for years and it seems like every year the car keeps getting cooler and cooler. In the two years since I saw it, something pretty major happened under the hood. Putting impressive horsepower numbers to the wheels is a built 2JZ he assembled himself, along with a big single turbo upgrade from stock twins. The heavy hitters in the engine spec list are JE pistons, Eagle rods, 1000cc ID injectors and Tomei cams. Running the engine is a Haltech PS2000 and forcing air in is a Borg Warner S300X. Not just power mods were made though; a fresh new aero kit, including a Vertex s14 front bumper, sideskirts and a BN rear bumper were fitted and paint-matched to freshen the drift monster up.
Drift Farm teammate Curtis Gilbert is an all-around great guy and funny as hell too. Being a long time friend of Goat’s, it only makes sense that Gilbert is part of the team. Built on a college student’s budget but still able to slay on the track, is his 1992 180SX with a pig nose bumper and lip rocking 50mm over fenders in the rear. The T25 turbo pushing 10lbs of boost through a front mount intercooler is just enough to have fun in, and on a track like Penticton Speedway, it makes itself right at home. Suspension mods include JIC coilovers in the rear and Teins in the front. Aftermarket rear upper control arms, rear toe arms, rear traction bars and solid rear sub frame bushings make up the rest of the suspension mod list. And just in case you were wondering, the wheels are SSR Kreis, 18X9 +20 in the front and 18X10.5 +18 in the rear, including a one inch spacer.
Last, but not least, is Dustin Brewster and his Zenki S14 – the newest addition to the Drift Farm family. I’ve known Dustin the longest out of these guys; he lived in Regina before moving to Calgary to pursue a career in paint protection. When he was in Regina, Dustin had a Mustang and just like we all said he would, he sold it soon after moving. He got into an S-chassis and started modding it, with one of the best (Goat) influencing him along the way. This year, he vinyl-wrapped the S14 to match his roommates and become part of the team. Watching Dustin drive at Penticton Speedway and progress as the weekend went on, made me think of the future once he gets his driving skills honed in. I can see it now – three “Drift Farm Grey” S-chassis’ on the track running tight three-car tandem runs!
Dustin gave me a detailed spec list of his car, so I will leave you all with it!
