As car guys in Canada, we pay special attention to the year in which we can import 15-year-old vehicles from Japan. Now that we’re in 2014, we can import vehicles made in 1999. This includes the R34 Nissan Skyline and the S15 Nissan Silvia. Unlike the RS4 GTR, which sells for over 30 grand (or more), you can get the top-of-the-line Nissan S15 Silvia SpecR for less than half of its twin turbo RB26-powered brother. Although it has two less cylinders and one less turbo, there’s no better car we can import today. 2014 is a year many people have been waiting for. One of the first S15’s I saw in Regina – and still the cleanest I’ve seen in person – is Brett Waggoner’s SpecR S15 sitting on Work Emotion CR-Kai’s. I don’t have a lot to write about with no real mod list, so lets just get to the pictures.
Arriving fresh off the boat looking much as it does in these photos, it wasn’t long before I saw this car on my way home one night. I knew I needed to feature it. I have lots of friends who have imported vehicles from Japan, but this car has to be one of the cleanest. I would probably say it’s number two on the list after Carter Jackson’s Kouki S14 (before he started drifting it, of course.)
Fortunately, our friend Kyle Ermel knew Brett and set up the photo shoot. I didn’t have to do much work other than actually taking pictures of the car. On the other hand, I’ve been so busy traveling to B.C., covering other events, working on my project car and working a full-time job, that it took me two months to complete this feature. I have to say sorry to Brett for making him wait so long!
One of the greatest assets of Canada’s car community is we have the ability to purchase cars directly from Japan. Cars like Brett’s are going to make the scene here in Canada so much better than it already is. There are more and more S15’s rolling around on the streets here in Regina – even a few R34’s – and it makes me anxious to see what will happen in the future. As the years pass, more cars will become available to us and the whole JDM scene will continue to evolve. I’m thinking back to the original Fast and Furious days and comparing it to what everything looks like now. There has been such an insane amount of change in a decade and I can’t wait to see what things are like in another decade. Thinking not-so-far away, I’m imagining what type of builds are going to go down on these newer generation Nissans, Toyotas, Hondas, Mitsubishis and Subarus.
Be sure to keep an eye on our social media for upcoming features and events, and as always, we appreciate all your support!
