I woke up Monday morning of the Labor Day weekend not wanting to do a whole lot. Between planning the Fallout meet for this upcoming Sunday, finding and posting content, I was looking to take a day off. However, a conversation with Dave (Monday Morning Rundown author) quickly convinced me to attend the Annual Access Communication Show and Shine.
In the past we would usually all come together and enter our cars in the show. Although it is primarily a classics meet the event organizers let us hang out. This year the troops were unable to be rallied, mostly because they were dispersed across Western Canada.
It seems weird to think that it was only a few years ago that we started DODOlogic and this show marked the beginning of it all.
Now, it should come as no surprise that classic cars are wasted on me. Don’t get me wrong, I like them but American muscle and classics are not built into my automotive dialogue. I appreciate these machines but know very little about them.
Regardless of my incompetence, it with still fun to sip on a Jarritos and wander around the now-packed football field snapping a few pictures here and there.
Occasionally, I would stumble across a familiar face and with approximately 400 cars in attendance that was no small feat.
Car shows like this tug on my nostalgic heart strings. With the exemption of a few newer cars, it’s like stepping back in time. Music from the Beach Boys, Buddy Holly and loads of other artists from that era could be heard throughout the show.
Walking around the show by myself gave me a chance to do some people watching. I get a pleasant kick out of the all the older enthusiasts enjoying the show. I figure it is like looking forward in time to see what the future has in store for me.
I am sure 20 years from now I will be walking around meets thinking about how things were back in my day. Well, at least I hope so, because it’s a comforting thought to know that some people never grow out of cars and stay active in the scene.
