These wheels may be a familiar sight, they are even sporting our old purple and white watermark. Truth be told they are my wheels and this picture is from way back when.
I usually don’t post pictures of my stuff, although I am not really sure why. I am sure I had a good reason when I started but I cannot remember for the life of me. Today, I can actually continue with this tradition because the car is no longer mine. That’s right a hard decision was made and me and my previously owned 1991 Nissan 180SX have parted ways after six years.
I had never really snapped pictures of this car until it came time to sell. The car came near stock and the black paint threw me for a loop, plus DODOlogic wasn’t even a thought when this car entered my life. Over the six years it saw a lot of changes and became the car you see above.
The car has seen three different front bumpers, two sets of coilovers, three different hoods (including the infamous rising run hood) and two and a near half set of wheels. I say “near half” because I never did get around to running the staggered setup that I had planned, instead the 18×10+18 just sat in their box. (seen in the first photo) So on the car you see four Work XD9’s sized at 17×9.5+17. At the time I thought it would be a good idea to buy them brand new, and I’m sure that helped contribute to my love affair with wheels.
I have never really been good at letting things go, I have only sold one car before this and it was to obtain this car. I have owned other cars while owning the Nissan but they didn’t feel like “my car” so to speak, but rather just winter cars. I had wanted a 1991 180SX for a long time, so long that I had to wait two and half years for them to become legal before I could import it. This is the first Nissan 180SX imported into Saskatchewan and believe it or not it was never supposed to drift. Then at one point all I ever wanted to do with it was drift.
Truth be told I was never really all that good at drifting, and never really had the means to pursue it once our Saskatchewan venues all dried up. That being said it was a blast to try and I think this car and those drift events helped create DODOlogic in some round about way.
However, nothing is permanent and I consider this a lesson in letting go. I will miss driving the car and all of its unique little quirks that just became second nature for me. I am excited to see what becomes of the car, so if you see it driving that handsome young man is not me, but rather Kevin Cuddington the proud new owner of his 1991 Nissan 180SX.
