Sometimes I forget what this is all about. In a rush to get through a post, I forget the people behind them and their stories.
Robby Kubica quickly reminded me why we do this, why we spend so much time dedicated to these pieces of metal. It is funny how much I learned about Robby and his car just because I took a picture of these Gulf wheels.
For seven years Robby has lived with this car, and I say live with it because that is exactly what he has done with it. This car spent the first part of it’s life with Robby in Socal going to meets and running some mountain passes.
This is where you separate the part-timers from the real enthusiasts. You see Robby’s beloved Z had a run in with a drunk driver, and came out on the losing end.
Most people would walk away, but not Robby. Robby decided that it wasn’t time to say good bye just yet, he bought a donor shell and got after it.
Piece by piece the Z came back to life, some pieces were hand shaped for the new design and eventually some wheels from Sakurajima Express.
The car eventually made it back to an amazing state as seen here at Defrost with too many aftermarket parts to list.
Originally, this was going to be a simple post, A “hey look at this sweet Z that also drifts.” Like I mentioned, it quickly went from wheels and drift spares to a story about dedication and passion, things that don’t always make sense to outsiders. However, those who get it, understand it and why this article became more than just wheels.
