Welcome back after what was a pretty awesome long weekend. The weather was great, beers were consumed and I managed to get some sleep. All-in-all it ranks up there on the satisfaction scale, May long-wise at least, with the dunk fests I used to partake in at Kenosee in my younger years. Let’s begin….
A few of the guys were able to make the trek east to Winnipeg to help our buddy Chris Gonzalez kick off his 2012 drift season at Area Nightclub. In Manitoba these types of functions are called “socials”. I guess it is because people are social at them? RyanB tells me it was a fun time.

Contributor JasonG was welcomed to the Winnipeg by their ‘finest’. It turns out his car is too low to safely use in Winnipeg and therefore they ‘suggested’ it should be towed back to the hotel. More on this later this week.

It was a big weekend in the drift world. There were quite a few different events going on in various locals around the world. Here is a breakdown of what went down:
DriftWest/Spec-D Sunday Funday at Castrol Raceway in Edmonton – The Alberta boys were busy getting ready for the 2012 season that kicks off June 10th. We are trying to get our Edmonton contributor to supply us with coverage of the day’s events.

Round 3 of the XDC season went down in Florida. Familiar names once again stood on the podium.
1. Chelsea DeNofa
2. Nate Hamilton
3. Jeremy Lowe

The first round of the World Drift Series took place in China. I’m still not convinced this is an actual series but there are enough big names to at least mention it. Team America took first place in the team tridem event. Team America consisted of Vaughn Gittin JR, Matt Powers and Chris Forsberg. In the Tandem event Vaughn took first place as well.

Also across the pond Formula Drift Asia kicked off in Malaysia. Not much coverage out there yet except for the results:
1. Daigo Saito
2. Manabu “Max” Orido
3. Tengku Djan

It is a huge upcoming weekened in the open wheel world as F1 runs in Monaco and the Indy 500 plays in the Brickyard.

The 2012 Global RallyCross season get underway in Charlotte, NC this weekend. The GRC is piggybacking off of large NASCAR/IndyCar weekends and taking advantage of an already existing fan base and media presence to help grow their brand.
Some of the names you will see partake in this years action are: Tanner Foust, Dave Mirra, Rhys Millen, Sam Hubinette, Marcus Gronholm, Ken Block, Travis Pastrana and Liam Doran
Hopefully we get some coverage on TV that isn’t prepackaged into a Motorsports Mondial type show.
