What is Johnny’s Car Fancy? That’s an excellent question. It’s a quick-style car shop. What’s a quick-style car shop? I’ll be honest – I’m not too sure. But it sure does look cool. I even googled it and still couldn’t really define it. Maybe you know and you’re mad that I don’t? Well good, you’re probably much cooler than me. Congratulations.
According to their Facebook page, Johnny’s Car Fancy is “A supple oasis along the journey to ultimate style.” It goes to say that they’re “Vancity’s car fashion hub. Your source for all things style & home of famous “Quick-Style” service.”
I think this means that you bring your car to them and they make it look cool. This idea is unheard of to me, probably because I’m from the prairies. In the prairies, you have a place where you pay people to add parts to your car, but the style part rests on your shoulders.
Listen, I don’t think this “quick-style” shop is a bad idea – quite the opposite actually. I just feel out-of-touch is all. If I’m being honest, I very much enjoyed everything about the shop. It sort felt like those photos of Nakai’s RWB shop in Japan, which is a strange and unique emporium of “Where and how did you get that?”
This isn’t the first time a shop like this has sprouted up in the Vancouver area. There have been others, but those never really managed to execute on the premise and got buried beneath hype and bad blood.
Maybe this article should have started with “Tucked away on the outskirts of Richmond, Johnny’s Car Fancy is slowly picking up steam and subtly working its way into its own niche within the Vancouver car scene.” But there’s no fun in that, and it lacks transparency.
I’m not going to pretend like I fully understand this shop or its ins and outs. But I don’t need to understand it, because there’s tons a shit I don’t understand. If you’re curious to discover all the little nuances that were wasted on me, I suggest you check it out for yourself. I sincerely hope that Johnny’s Car Fancy continues to grow and be successful. I also hope they keep having events because they are fun, and we all know this city (and most cities?) could have more fun car things to do.
