Saturday, June 2, was one of Regina’s largest car meets: Defrost presented by DODOlogic.
All of the build progress shared on social media over the winter comes to life at this event. Everything shows up: VIP builds, functional track and street cars, stanced cars, trucks and the like.
This year’s attendees were subtle. Memories of last year’s “shenanigans” were fresh in the minds of people, who remembered to stay humble and smart in the parking lot and the surrounding areas around the university.
R8s are becoming increasingly more popular in the city. Although most likely all OEM, these machines are a pleasure to look at up close.
Travis Hilts’ JZX100 has already had a full feature – apologies for the “event style” photo. Wonderful build, Travis.
We don’t see a lot of Z33s on air suspension. A wise choice for Saskatchewan roads. You know, our seasons go as follows: Winter, pothole birth, road repairs, wasp season, you missed a spot, repeat.Notice the license plate? Defrost is open to cars from all over. Thanks for swinging by!I saw this G35 cruising Regina’s Ring Road about an hour or so ahead of the event. I did a double take, then a triple take at this machine. Stance? Nah. Original build for sure!I had ended the conversation with a really stupid question. “Does it do sweet jumps?”
This Copperhead is just immaculate with the addition of the supercharger. It was nutty even before the supercharger.
Mandy Bengert’s Rocket Bunny S15 on air suspension was completed the night before Defrost.I did not get a chance to chat with the owner, so I couldn’t ask if this was going to receive an exterior overhaul or not. Either way – drift car. S-Chassis with an LS? Outlandish? I’ll leave that for the community to decide.Kyle Zimmer’s new addition. As you might have noticed over the years, Kyle loves his R-Chassis. And he knows I love yellow. Everyone should tell him to keep it yellow.
Borg Warner, wood grain, carbon fiber. Nice bay!A more full shot of Garret Hilts’ engine bay in his monster R32 Skyline. The Hilts brothers made quite an appearance. One for drift, one for a straight line. Both well executed.Easton Giesbrecht has stuffed a Toyota V8 under the hood of this thing. Seriously cool.
“Proof of swap”Dominic Guevara changed up his colour scheme on his 4-door R34. Very nice.A personal Subaru favorite of mine. The wheel combination and color. With an owner who’s a technician from Odd Man Out Performance, you’d best expect some power to match.
I was digging the “drag” inspired rear end of Blake’s R33.Andy’s Civic wagon. A personality to match the owner. Love it or hate it, this car always turns heads in some form.
There’s always going to be that “first meet of the year excitement.” As cliquey as the car scene is, it’s humbling to see the swarm of enthusiasts sharing their builds in one showing. Friends get to hang out, and those groups of friends get to experience other genres of builds they may not have seen in the city before – let alone heard about.
Defrost was as it should be: Calm, cool, and collected. Calm: We had no parking lot drama. Cool: There was some fairly neat stuff out there. Collected: A mixture of everything. A season opener to show off what this city has going on. Defrost answered some questions and this year lived up to its more optimistic reputation of being an awesome meet.
