Beat the Heat at Redline Society Summer Heat

Posted on August 31, 2016

Cruise weekend in Saskatoon: the one weekend every year that car lovers – new and old – get together to enjoy the beautiful weather and talk anything automotive, and the one weekend that makes all the blood, sweat, tears and countless late nights in the garage worth it. With all the car related events going on throughout the weekend, I made sure to make it out to Redline Summer Heat presented by ENS Auto. Over the years, this event has been the midpoint between DODOlogic’s Defrost and Fallout meets, and the one meet that’s held in Saskatoon.

0Q8A1654Upon arriving to the meet after shutting down my noisy car, I was greeted with the sounds of DJ thorpedo with Dream Big Productions. The parking lot was already starting to fill and I was getting antsy to start shooting. I met up with DODO’s Megan Skene and we began our walk-through of the cars. We started a friendly camera war and decided we would both contribute photos to the article.

_MG_7801The thing I love most about the Redline Society meets is the variety – cars and trucks, old and new, from daily cruisers to award-worthy show cars, they never disappoint!

0Q8A1785After walking around for a while and catching up with a few friends, hunger set in and I made a quick pit stop at the Rebel Melt food truck which was also in attendance. I had planned it perfectly; the extra weight in my belly would possibly be an advantage in the limbo competition that started shortly after.

0Q8A1757Starting off with the 4 door cars, they slowly made their way around the parking lot, each time the bar getting lower and lower until we had a winner. Many of the cars are shown crammed with people to try and get the slightest advantage.

_MG_7991After the 4 doors were done, they ran the 2 trucks through – both on air!

_MG_8107Shortly after that, the 2 door cars lined up and man, there were a lot! I didn’t catch any photos as I was behind the wheel of Travis Lafond’s RHD EG coupe. Last year we almost took the win, but this year was a little different. We had some LOW competition and ultimately were knocked out of the competition.

_MG_8099The winner of the 2 door class was Donavon Kemppainen in his Acura NSX.

_MG_7879After the limbo competition was over and the prizes were given out, things slowly started to wind down. I think the heat was taking its toll on the spectators, with many seeking shelter in any bit of shade available.

0Q8A1722A few furry friends tagged along, my favourite being a 3-legged wiener dog named Patty.

0Q8A1794Jett the drift dog and companion Chris Klein also made an appearance.

0Q8A1725This custom Radio Flyer wagon was a huge hit with the little ones! Built by Chase Taylor.

0Q8A1628This year’s Redline Society Summer Heat was a great success! With over 300 cars in attendance, I’m pleased to say it’s getting bigger and bigger each year. Thank-you Redline Society for hosting such an awesome event and to our many sponsors for making this happen!
