The Midwest Does it Best

Posted on May 25, 2016May 25, 2016

It was a rather dreary day, with temperatures in the mid 40’s (single digits Celsius) and a decent breeze; the weather was anything but ideal for the JDM Chicago season opening meet. Neither I, nor any of the others who were planning to attend, were going to let that stop us. I had been anticipating this event for a while, since I would finally be able to bring my car out. JDM Chicago has played a large role in supporting and promoting the car scene in the Midwest for some time now. They stand for promoting local motorsport activities, building friendships amongst all of those who attend the events, and increasing the technical and mechanical knowledge base of all members who wish to register at www.jdmchicago.com. They have certainly helped influence me. I’ve looked up to all these guys since I was 14, going to their meets with my older brother – and now I get to run with them. It’s a great feeling knowing that I’ve established many new friendships primarily because of JDMC reaching out to the community, and I can only hope that my friend base continues to grow! On to the cars…

JDMC-1On the way to the meet, I had to snap a picture of my friend’s 350z in its fresh wrap sporting VIP Modular FX110 wheels and Airlift suspension.

JDMC-2Alan Castro’s R32 on polished Grenade GX 01 with a PS Duce kit, Origin fenders and canards, and a Dmax hood, is beginning to come together. Maybe a possible feature in the near future?

JDMC-3This Datsun was carrying some precious cargo..

JDMC-4This heavily modified Honda Grom was quite the looker!

JDMC-5What drew me in to this Volkswagen were the Work VS-KF wheels. I could get used to seeing these on European cars!

JDMC-6Kevin Taczynski’s E36 is tastefully modified and certainly one of the better looking BMWs in the area!

JDMC-7This S13.5 wears some pretty aggressive aero and pulls it off quite well.

JDMC-8Despite the weather, everyone was still eager to get their hands on some new merchandise this year.

JDMC-9Jaybee Bantug’s FC Vert looks good with the top down, dropped on polished cobra wheels with its new red J-UP seat.

JDMC-10AJ Gillett’s R32 sedan is always one of my favorites!

JDMC-11Every time Everett Scott makes a change to this car, I fall more in love with it. The TE37Vs look stunning with this new setup.

JDMC-12A Conquest TSI on Rezax, I can’t say that I would’ve ever imagined I’d be seeing this, but I’m very pleased with it!

JDMC-13I was thrilled to see that Fred had brought the FC out. It was nice catching up with him.

JDMC-14Mike Geselle’s 1UZ-T swapped Celica is very unique and a show stopper without a doubt.

JDMC-16After all the recent hype of the newly released NSX, it was nice to see a prestine original at the meet!

JDMC-17Last but not least, my favorite car of the meet: Mike Hahnen’s bassboat pink R32 sedan. Since it was painted before Final Bout last year, this car has had a place in my heart.

JDMC-18You can expect to see more coverage from JDM Chicago events like Offset Kings Chicago coming this summer, so keep your eyes open!
