Jessie-Joe Curtis has built a monster. Jessie-Joe is one of the people behind Odd Man Out Performance in Regina, SK and I’ve been following this Subaru Impreza build since the beginning. Usually I would take you through the detail of the build, but today we’ll try something a little different. We’re going to get the words straight from the source and let Jessie-Joe do most of the talking. He did me a huge solid when he sent me the spec list and gave me a detailed story of how the build went. Read on!
Jessie-Joe: “Okay, this whole build started off as a cheap way to get rid of some rust on my rear quarter. That’s when the whole thing snowballed and got right out of hand. I was at a point where I had to decide if I wanted to do the ‘stance’ thing or go for the full, FIA-time attack build. I chose the second option.”
“While I was waiting for a vast amount of parts to show up, I trailered the car up to Jake Daneluk at Hardluck Fabrications in Yorkton (SK) to have a cage custom made and installed. We agreed upon a price, I gave him a list of specs to follow and a short while later, the cage was finished.”
The cage is one of my favourite parts of the build and if you get the chance to check it out, do so. You’ll be just as impressed as I am, I guarantee it.
“Once it was home, the full interior was painted matte-smoke grey, the dash was trimmed and flocked with suede fibers, and the Corbeau Forza Sport FIA seats and RaceQuip FIA harnesses were installed. After the interior was back together, I began cutting out the perfectly good quarter panels to fit the flares and hopefully fit the wheels and tires (that hadn’t arrived yet). After roughly 100 hours of cutting, fitting and sanding, the flares were mounted.”
“With the help of Kevin Cuddington, Chase Whiteside and Matt Reed, we had the car vinyl-wrapped in a matte aluminum silver over the course of a weekend. I picked this colour because there’s something about different coloured door jams that just drives me crazy.”
“From there, it was kind of a shit show. It felt like I was just throwing money at it. I had the new Feal Coilovers arrive, the Wilwood BBK, Work D9R wheels, NT01 tires, APR GTC-500 wing, full Aeroflow Dynamics lower aero and my Cavalli Stage 2 Turbo. Since then, my weekends have been a blur of car shows, meets, tuning and racing events.”
Jessie-Joe also had some “fun facts” he wanted to share. These facts underscore how busy he is, keeping in mind he works full-time at the shop as well:
1. “While I was waiting for the cage to be done, I bought and parted out a 2004 WRX, which funded my wheel and tire set up.”
2: “While I was waiting for parts to show up, I built my GSX-R and also rebuilt the trailer that I used to haul my cars with.”
3: After my car was, in my eyes, finished, I bought and built a 2003 WRX drift car.”
