Today I am going to show you guys my favorite locally owned Subaru. There’s literally a sea of Subarus in Saskatchewan, mostly because they’re a great car for our Winter conditions and can be driven year-round. With so many Subarus, it can be hard to stand out and if you want to get noticed you best bring your “A” game. Dustin Hydamaka is from Saskatoon and he helped set the bar for Saskatchewan with his build. Dustin was cool enough to make the trip to our Fallout meet with his immaculate STI, where I had a chance to park it in front of my lens for a few photos.
I first learned about Dustin’s car when I was looking for features to shoot at our Defrost meet earlier this year. He messaged me and only needed to say a few words to gain my interest: Cosworth short block, Work VS-XX’s and wide body. What else do you really need to know after hearing that?!
The 2008 STI hatchback’s power plant was of course built, balanced and blueprinted at Cosworth USA in California. Packed full of all their parts including the crank, rods, pistons, rings, high volume oil pump and an oil baffle plate, the engine should be making around 400WHP.
The custom wide body was done at Bridge City Auto Collision in Saskatoon and I have to say they did one hell of a job. Everything fits as if it was an option from the factory. In a world where Liberty Walk, Rocket Bunny and others alike seem to rule the market, sometimes it’s refreshing to see a wide body that is subtle and a little less in-your-face. If you were to ask me what my favourite part about the car is, there would be no doubt in my mind: the body modification.
The 18×10.5″ Work VS-XX wheels, with a custom “Burning Black” finish and wrapped in Dunlop Star Spec R 245/55R18 tires, is also a nice touch. It’s truly a thing of beauty when you look into a wheel with polished lips and you don’t see a single scratch or imperfection. The same thing could be said about his car’s paint as well. You can tell Dustin truly takes care of his car; this is something all car enthusiasts should have mad respect for.
This Subaru really ties everything together into one neat little package. With such an influx in the Subaru population over the last few years, I wouldn’t be surprised to see more quality builds follow the standard set by this one.
