About a year ago, Jeff contacted me and asked if I’d photograph the 2013 Boxer Battle. I of course said yes, not knowing that this commitment came with a 5:30 AM arrival time. When Jeff first told me 5:30 AM, I asked him to confirm and he had said “Yes, AM.” Well 5:30 came very, very fast but the day was great and I kept up on my caffeine to I stay awake.
Upon arriving, I quickly inquired about the days schedule as I was new to the whole Boxer Battle event. The short of it was that the day would start with timed laps but would progress into a more technical layout.
As cars arrived they would go through technical inspection, and then be assigned to class A or class B.
It wasn’t all serious business, there were some shenanigans like trying to fit a guy who’s 6’6″ into a S2000.
The drivers meeting took place and then the racing started. For all the car events I’ve been to, few were as well planned and smoothly run as this one. They were a bit late starting, but once the timer was set up, the cars were out and they switched between groups flawlessly.
The timed lap started the event, and some people quickly learned their cars were a little on the low side with not much tire clearance.
As the day progressed the track became more technical and this was really fun to watch. I was able to see who was actually willing to push their cars.
There were two “odd balls” in the group as well. It was all Subarus except for this Skyline GTR and a Mitsubishi Evo.
There was also a special guest appearance by the local track muskrat.
While the racing happened on track, Redline Society held a car meet in the parking lot.
I’ve heard rumours that they might open this event up to all vehicles next year. I hope I get an invite back to do this again! Definitely a must do if you’re a gear head.
Good write up Megan, thanks for coming out and thanks for that lovely shot of my dented tin can haha.
Great little write up Megan, as well as a lot of great shots to capture the day. I was the 6’6″ guy who barely fit in the S2K. Fitting wasn’t the worst part, I don’t think there is any way I could clutch that thing without slamming on the brakes haha!
