A few weekends ago I was sitting around the house, bored out of my mind, and I looked outside and realized how cloudy the sky was. I also realized that the light was acting almost as if it was an overcast day, with the clouds created subtle shadows. For me, anytime outside of the “golden hours” — when the sun is close to the horizon during rising or setting — is an undesirable time to shoot a vehicle. But I decided to see if someone was down to get a photoshoot of their car. Minutes after I advertised on the Instagram and Facebook pages, Travis Hilts sent me a message saying he was in the middle of washing his car with his brother Garett. It was meant to be!
I was familiar with what Travis drove because he’s been out to Kingspark Speedway ripping up the banks every time I’ve been there shooting. Garett was a bit more unfamiliar to me. I was glad to see a very tastefully modded R32 GTR parked beside Travis’ s-chassis when I pulled up to meet them.
Seeing how last-minute the entire situation was, I really had no idea where we were going to do the photoshoot. All I knew was I wanted to get a wide open view of the sky. Anyone from the prairies should know how easy it is to find a spot that would accommodate my wish, so we headed south, hit a grid road and set up next to a farm.
Garett’s car has a few mods, but lets be honest — a GTR doesn’t need much to be cool. Subtle yet effective exterior mods include a Top Secret style carbon fiber diffuser, ABflug front lip and Xenon lights. Interior mods add up to a leather shift boot and Nismo shift knob
Performance mods include a very sleek Tomei titanium exhaust and Apexi polished turbo elbows to allow air to flow a bit smoother.
The R32 is sitting on Work XD9 18×10 +18 all around. I asked him the same question most of you will ask yourselves: “What’s up with the wheel gap?” Garett assured me the TEIN comfort sport coilovers will be shortened in the near future and it’s just in need of a good fender rolling, which is understandable.
Moving right along, Travis’ 240sx is packed full of mods that make it track worthy. Performace adders include an SR20DET swap with:
ARP headstuds;
550cc Yellow Top injectors;
z32 MAF;
GT2860RS Turbo;
Garrett Intercooler;
Megan exhaust manifold;
Koyo Radiator;
HKS SSQV blow off valve;
3 inch exhaust with ASpec blast pipes;
Welded differential.
Travis’ Interior parts list:
Momo Prototipo steering wheel;
PBM shift knob, ebrake button;
OMP bucket seats;
Crow 4/5 point harnesses;
Harness bar;
AEM wideband AFR gauge;
Turbosmart boost controller;
GREDDY turbo timer.
The battle scars are solid evidence that the S-Chassis sees the track from now and then.
The 17×9 +20 Square wheels are bolted to a 5 lug conversion with Megan track coilovers bolted up further into the wheel wells.
Thanks for letting me shoot your whips guys!
