Somewhere in Saskatchewan, someone is building a cool car and chances are good you don’t know about it. Why is that? Simple: we don’t live in a huge metropolis. In fact, our entire province’s population is pretty much the equivalent to that of Calgary. Play the numbers and you’ll discover it’s very hard to get a car from Saskatchewan recognized. For the most part, we’re known for oil, wheat and potash — not cool cars.
However, if you live in Saskatchewan and drive a S-chassis, chances are high you’ve crossed paths — or, at the very least, are about to cross paths — with Adrian Ahmadi. In fact, if you happen to be a historical buff on DODOlogic then you’d know a large part of DODOlogic’s creation hinges on that statement.
Many years ago, when the scene was a little bit smaller, I purchased a 180SX. Lo and behold, in my first weekend of driving that car I met Adrian driving his S13 240sx coupe. That initial meeting eventually grew into a friendship that would become one of the building blocks of this site.
But we aren’t here to be nostalgic or talk about the three other S-chassis he’s owned since I’ve known him. We’re here to talk about S-Chassis number four.
After a short stint with a couple RX7’s, Adrian went back to where he started: the S13. The car looked a lot different when he picked it up, but Adrian did what he does best and built this 180SX
After owning those two RX7′s, he realized just how easy it was to build an S-Chassis. What would be a headache for most people went together like lego for Adrian. He actually managed to build this car while going to school, working a part-time job and helping me with my car.
Adrian stuck to his Nissan roots when choosing the power plant for this chassis. Never one to mess with RBs, he decided to stick with the SR. However, the old faithful SR20DET just would not do for this build, so instead he went to a Tomei 2.2L Sr20 stroker that was assembled by Mazworx. The engine is full of other Tomei goodies, from a forged full counter Crank and pistons, all the way down to the Tomei headgasket. The engine also has some BC titanium valve springs and retainers and some HKS 264 camshafts.
Although Adrian has always been into making power, there’s no doubt in my mind that his biggest influence on me is his love for wheels. Needless to say it would be a cold day in hell before you ever saw anything less than super legit on this car. Fitment and wheel brand are pretty much always top shelf.
The car was fitted with 20mm front fenders and 30mm in the rear to help fit those wheels. The Work VSKF’s measure 18x 9.5 – 10 up front and 18×11+7 in the rear. The fonts are wrapped in 215/35/18 and the rears are 235/40/18. Speaking of wrapping things, you might also notice the exterior car was wrapped in a matte metallic blue automotive vinyl.
It can be pretty hard to impress with a S-chassis; we all know they’re about a dime a dozen now. So hopefully this 180SX doesn’t fall on deaf ears, so to speak. Some of the other things you may find on the car are: Top Secret Japan front bumper, Full JDM Kouki sideskirts, tail lights and rear valance. As for the spoiler, Adrian went with the Endless Japan option and matched that with a DMAX roof spoiler.
Saskatchewan might not be the biggest kid on the block, but we’ve still got a little bit of some scrap in us. We’re not all wheat fields and grain elevators and occasionally we can surprise you
I’ll leave you with this shot of his car in front of the Regina Legislative building. It is perhaps one of the most photographed spots in the city and that’s exactly why we chose it. It couldn’t double as anything else but something uniquely Saskatchewan.
