Hop in the magic time machine known as the internet and I will show what went down at Drift West round 2, held on the 23rd of June at Edmonton’s Castrol raceway
The morning of Driftwest Round 2 was met with clear skies and awesome weather for drifting in the forecast. Always a force to be reckoned with, Drift Farm was out looking mean and clean as usual while waiting in line for tech
Getting to events early is something I always like to do, its a good chance to catch up with all the awesome people Ive met shooting drifting. It’s also a good way to scope out some neat rides, like Lito’s 240.
It was also a rare chance to take a picture of Colton’s 1JZ powered cressida sitting still.
Drift West runs an open practice before qualifying, giving Colton a chance to go out and throw down. He made the most of it and probably took the most runs all day!
Practice was started around noon, the warm temperatures were not to Normand Burwash’s liking, so he decided to run with his hatch open. Oops.
If there was an award for the most insane entry, it would definitely have to go to Normand who run after run would throw his Nissan 240sx into the first clip with some of the most obtuse angles seen all day.
Not to be outdone by his team mate, Chad Sager was really poring on the angle in the later parts of the track. The Sherwood Nissan cars are by far the wildest looking cars in the series, they really stand out!
No you’re not seeing double. Team mates Conroy Ganson and Andrew Moschuk had some of the cleanest runs during the practice session
Coming off an aggressive round one showing, Mr Moschuk showed no signs of slowing down this event and as a result would end up taking second in qualifying.
For the second event in a row, the top spot would belong to Conroy Ganson.
After the top 16 intro…
And quite the awesome smoke show, it was time to get down to business.
First up saw Chad Simpson taking on Conroy Ganson in his first tandem event. Chad gave it all he could, but it was Conroy punching the ticket into the great 8.
Keeping his momentum going from his second place qualifying spot, Andrew was able to shadow Jesse Widney and make his way to the great 8.
Shawn Hawley would move past Drift Asylums Chris Meek after another aggressive chase run by Shawn. You can check out more of “Shawley”s LS1 Chaser here
With no rain to worry about, Travis Clark was able to run his convertible S13 with out its tarp drop top, and was able to move past Shawn Hartum to the top 8. Shawn has really impressed me with his driving this year getting better and better every time he hits the track.
Louren Sansregret and Rob Houck had a tough go at each other.
In the end the judges decided Louren would move on to the great 8.
This one was crazy. Drift Farms Kurtis Goat up against Drift Asylums Jesse Wiesner.
Being regulars at Calgary’s Race City, which has now closed down, they both knew each others driving style very well and made for a very exciting battle. Goat would be victorious at the end of it all.
Kyle Zimmer made his first top 16 appearance and came out swinging against Chad Sager
Unfortunately Kyle spun his R32 Skyline coming into the the third clipping point ending his weekend a bit early.
Taking three practice runs and having to run across town for a part for his car, Jon Schildwatcher looked right at home as Norm’s shadow.
Norm put up a good fight and didn’t go down quietly, but Jon was awarded the win in the end.
For the second time this season Shawn Hawley met Conroy Ganson in the top 8.
Shawn left nothing on the track but wasn’t able to move past Conroy.
Andrew Moschuk continued to look on point against Chad Sager and earned a spot in the final four.
Kurtis Goat had an impressive lead run against Jon Schildwatcher and looked like it was going to go one more time, until Kurtis made a small bobble and lost ground on Jon giving him the win.
Travis Clark and Louren Sansregret had an awesome battle, both drivers were on point , the judges decided Travis would be the one moving on.
In the Final four Travis met Conroy to battle for a shot at the podium, but was unable to move past the speedy Rx7.
On the other side of the final four bracket, Andrew Moschuk was paired with Jon Schildwatcher. Andrew came out on maximum attack but got caught up in one of the clipping points ripping one of the lines free from the bottom of his Rx7. Fourth place would have to do sadly as he was unable to repair the car in time, awarding Travis Clark third place.
After a one more time call Jon Schildwatcher took the top spot on the podium once again this year. Can he make it 3 in a row in Penticton?
With two rounds left in the series, the points game is getting tighter and tighter, but its still anyone’s game!
Round three goes down this weekend at Penticton speed way, so if you’re in the area come check it out!
