I have had the pleasure of attending Formula D twice in the past and soon I will make my third trip. To most, this probably isn’t a huge deal, but living in Saskatchewan creates a few hurdles to make this happen. Usually to get to events you have to put a few hundred kilometers behind you (sometimes thousands). Anyway, I was getting my equipment set for the up coming weeks and I was making room on my laptop for new photos. While doing this, I came across some content from the past few years.
My first Formula D event was two years ago in Vegas. My then-girlfriend — and now wife — flew me to Vegas as a birthday present so I could attend the event. I went as a spectator and she came with to keep me company. After being in at the track for 8 hours she swore them off forever and I proposed the next day.
Looking back at the photos it turns out I was really bad at this, it is a wonder that DODO is still around. To be honest it is kind of comforting to look back, be critical and say I sucked, at least this way I know things are getting better.
Some people are jealous of the drivers, not me, I was jealous of all the people standing in the media area. After attending my first round of Formula D in Vegas, I decided the next time I went to an event that I would go as media. That is exactly what I did last year when I traveled to the Seattle round of Formula D.
There is something pretty unreal about being at an FD event that leaves a smile on my face for days. Even if you aren’t a drift fan, I recommend attending at least one event. With that being said I will leave you with the video I made last year.
