Well, what Hennessy Performance did was take the lightweight nimble Lotus Exige platform and injected it with a twin turbo 6.2L aluminum V8 (based on a Chevy LS). Known as the 2012 Hennessey Venom GT, this is one of the cars that really caught my eye while wandering the endless halls of SEMA.
After taking a look at the complete spec-sheet, what you can conclude is that this car is ridiculous. It looks amazing, pumps out a ton of power, yet manages to be just as nimble as the Lotus it was crafted from. For reference a Lotus Exige Series 2 model weighs 2,016 lb and puts out 190hp from a Toyota supplied 4 cylinder engine.
Speaking of engines and performance, here are the guts that provide all that go. Clean and simple – I’m sure you could get in there and do service yourself unlike the typical modern super car don’t you agree?
The exterior doesn’t seem to be changed all that much from a Lotus, and all told it really hasn’t. The only major change is that the car has been lengthened roughly two feet bumper to bumper, with about a 14 inch increase in wheelbase.
The interior again hasn’t been changed too much from a standard Exige. Simplicity was the main focus for this car, with only upgrades to the materials and finishes inside.
Honestly, after seeing this car up close in person, it is definitely near the top of the car wish list. It’s too bad only 10 are produced every year with only 4 being completed as of October 2011 and a total production limited to 29.
