This past weekend the Winnipeg Jet’s made their first NHL Draft Pick in 15 years in Minneapolis, Minesota. Little did Winnipeg know that just down the road from the Twin Cities, their very own Chris Gonzalez was winning a little drift competition in Brainerd. Chris placed first at the MAPerformance 3rd Annual Sport Compact Proving Grounds at Brainerd International Raceway. Congrats Chris!

The DMCC West series announced this past week that there will once again be a demonstration at the Edmonton Indy in a few weeks. The demo will be please the crowd as always since there is a lot of room to go fast and make a lot of smoke. The 2011 DMCC West series then continues on July 31st at Stratotech Park in Fort Saskatchewan.

Speaking of drift demos, the guys up in Saskatoon were planning on running another demo at Autoclearing Speedway on the upcoming long weekend. Unfortunately, like in other Saskatchewan centres, the track owners decided that drifting just wasn’t for them and the event has been cancelled.

Staying on the topic of Formula 1. Plans for a new 1.6l 4-banger engine have been scrapped in favour of a V6 of the same displacement. The new engines will show up in 2014 as long as the big bossmen at Formula 1 approve of the engine design.
