I know we have a lot of readers that enjoy rally racing. Back in the day the FIA introduced a new class called ‘Group B’. Group B allowed the car builders to cram as much horsepower into a car as they could. Then they crammed a driver/co-driver team in and sent them on their merry way.
While Group B was a very successful class of racing it only lasted five years in the early to mid 1980’s. It turns out that a car with 600+ horsepower is quite dangerous when suspension and braking technology can’t keep up. It becomes much more dangerous when you have thousands of crazy rally fans literally inches from these cars going 200+ km/h. Needless to say there were numerous cases of death and injury of those both inside and outside of the cars.
I came across this video that showcases just how crazy the fans were. Some may even find the soundtrack to be a bit too crazy in itself.

were people more stupid in the 80’s or something? could u imagine the stress the crowd created for the drivers, like driving 150+km/h isnt stressful enough on gravel.
