Tuesday afternoon put us smack in the middle of the Formula D press conference. For a kid from Saskatchewan like myself, it was pretty overwhelming. I heard the news first-hand while in the company of more established media members and professional drivers. Usually I wouldn’t bore you with my experience, but I thought the experience was worth sharing.
Ryan Sage, co-founder of Formula Drift, addressing the 100+ people in attendance.
Now that we have gotten that out of the way, I can tell you all about the upcoming season of Formula D. The most instantly gratifying news is that Formula D and Direct TV have partnered to create two one-hour long episodes of the final round at Irwindale in 3D.
Formula D has also solidified their relationship with Justin.tv to stream live coverage of events via the extremeley successful and popular Driftstream. This is great news for those of us from Canada who do not have access the television network Versus, which broadcasts Formula D. Driftstream will also be covering Formula D’s trip to Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dahbi UAE in late February.
Formula D also announced they will publishing a quarterly magazine that will be available prior to the first round at Long Beach in 2011. (Pardon the picture quality, I needed visual cues so I photographed the projector screen.)
In January they will also be releasing their own custom hats from Flat Fitty. Each Formula D champion will have their own design.
Finally, the professional drifting series announced it will design a shoe in partnership with Mint Footwear.
It really seems like it is onward and upward for Formula D and it was a treat to be there for the news.
