This very well might be the first muscle car feature on DODO. We may not always give drag racing the respect it deserves, but the caliber of these purpose built vehicles is pretty impressive. These cars can put down some serious power to the wheels to get over the 1320 feet of pavement that would lay ahead of them. I am sure most people are not strangers to the drag races and know the feeling and sound of these machines making their 1/4 mile pass. So, I want to introduce another of Russ Flaman’s toys.
The car is a 1970 Chevelle tube chassis. He bought it as a rolling chassis out of San Francisco in August of 2009. Then Russ purchased the long block from a guy in Kentucky. The Southern Gentleman had been using the long block in his street purpose GMC Cyclone. The motor is a LS1 347cu, ported GM heads with forged internals and Edelbrock intake. The Borg Warner S475 75mm turbo is supported by 96lb injectors and GM computer tuned with the help of HP tuners.
The headers, merge pipe and 5″ down pipe were hand made with mandrel bent stainless steel U’s. All cold side piping was made of aluminum bends. All fabrication work was done by Russ himself. The transmission is a Powerglide with a PTC converter. The rear end is a GM 12 bolt with a 3.73 gear. It also benefits from an AMS 1000 boost controller, and a LPE 2-step.
On the Chassis dyno it made 741 HP 939 ft-lb. Best pass is a 8.69, best MPH is 156.25
Interior means business as it was stripped and redesigned to comply with rules and the new setup of the car. Nothing useless lies around here. Well maybe the fan, but I am sure it has some use at the end of the day.
