Day 1 was complete, a social gathering at Ryan’s parent’s home was complete, and everyone was praying the rain was also complete. As everyone awoke, we were pleased to see that the rain had stopped! But in the true loving fashion of mother nature, she had replaced it with freezing, hurricane winds…(over exaggerating obviously, but they were pretty damn strong!). We arrived and realized everyone’s cars had never looked worse. And for some, never ran worse. So as everybody struggled to get their cars ready, I did the smart thing, and sat in the club house and waited for everyone to start driving.
One by one, the cars trickled onto the track and began tearing it up. Everyone was so excited that the pavement was dry that they completely put the tornado winds out of their minds. All except one. Poor Kurtis arrived at the track to a car that refused to start. No power was getting to the fuel pump. So we pushed the car behind a giant container and he began to trouble shoot to figure it out. S chassis owners jumped in to provide parts to see what was causing it. Unfortunately after an entire morning wasted pulling apart the harness trying to figure why there was no power getting to the back, he realized it was simply the main relay, water had got inside from the day before and totally destroyed it. After swapping it out, everything looked good, turned the key and the starter was fried. The guy can’t catch a break! Screw it, we pushed started the gnarly sounding S13, he drove off and preceded to slay the afternoon.
Definitely one of my favorite cars at drift camp! Loved the sound, the feel, the power, the look! Definitely set up for the sport of drifting! This next picture definitely depicts Kurt’s Sunday, dragging e brake for like 200 ft and making huge entries off the 2 straights!
I feel like everybody really enjoyed the Sunday. I know I sure did! I went for around 2 hours of ride alongs! Which is the main reason I only got shots of some of the cars. Because by the time I was done having my fun a lot of the guys finished having theirs. So unfortunately I didn’t get shots of everyone’s cars and I apologize. But here are some pictures of a local to Saskatchewan, Chris Klein, in his turbo’d miata! He killed it on Sunday, probably some of the best smoke out of all the cars! And apart from a leaky diff, broken aero and running out of tires, it didn’t seem like he ran into too much trouble.
Another local driver that always promises a good show is Chris’s brother, Cam Klein in his Toyota Mark II! With his unreal 1J sounds and his super fast and aggressive entries, he is always one of my favorites to watch.
One of everyone’s favorite drivers is a resident of Calgary. His name is Paul and he drives the coolest Mango I have ever seen. Three things get you when Paul drives… speed, angle and sound! Paul is constantly the fastest car through the course, always with the craziest angle, and all with that NA motor screaming in the background, whats not to love!? For anyone who remembers last years Big Valley Driftoree, Paul blew his motor to pieces (literally) and we weren’t sure if he would make this weekend. We were all super stoked when we found out he was going to be there for sure.
And last but not certainly not least, Aaron from Calgary in his sweet s13 had some really nice lines and good speed all weekend! Meeting this guy was a treat. Very cool dude that knew what he was doing on the track. Can’t wait to drive with him and the rest of the alberta boys when I come up to Calgary.
Well unfortunately the way things worked out, those were the only cars I could get decent action shots of. Just the way things happen I guess. There was so many other great drivers, and I really wish I could have taken some shots of them. But it is what it is. Here is a couple other still shots I had of Wade from Saskatoon, unfortunately his car just refused to not break tie rods, he spent a good portion of his weekend fixing those darn things! Definitely a good sport about the whole thing though!
Here is another still shot of one of my favorite drivers from the weekend, Devin from Calgary in his super unique SR20 powered AE86. I am still mad at myself for not getting one good action shot of him. I did some really fun ride alongs with him though, one of which were he nailed a backward entry on the first corner off the long front straight.
So that about sums it all up. Rain, wind, engine noise, and the smell of destroyed tires! I know I sure had a blast all weekend, and I hope that everyone else did as well. There was some unreal driving and I can’t wait to do it all again! Once again I want to thank everyone for supporting us and coming out to the event. I also want to thank our sponsors for helping out as much as they did. They went above and beyond this weekend. Thanks again everyone! And just for fun here is a couple fun shots of a couple of the guys towing their beasts home.
nice shots!
Those are definately some nice shots but there was alot more people supporting the event than the guys from out of town. Ive been apart of the local drift scene from day one and i dont appreciate being excluded from the event coverage. If anyone has some shots of the 180 please send em my way.
You weren’t excluded… I took over 200 pictures, the ones I posted are the ones that turned out and the ones that I was proud of. The weekend didn’t exactly provide photographer friendly weather. Nobody promised a photography service. I don’t get paid to do this. If you wanted garunteed pictures, you should have brought a camera… or just wait till everyone elses pictures are posted. They might have gotten some of you.
We aren’t done posting pictures from the event, there will be more of other people..
Fair enough, if those were the only quality pictures. If you guys have any of me i wouldn’t mind checkin them out if you can send them to my email?
There are some more photos on Drift West. Chris Gonzo (JDM S14) has been sending me some nice ones of my car (240SX S14) over the past few days. Maybe those guys would be willing to share some of there photos. I know it would make my day to see my car up on this great site. Thanks again for putting on an awsome weekend of drifting.
