Like it or not, green is in. My favorite thing about the Honda booth is that they show you can be green without losing the style or the fun. Honda always has an excellent booth. Big, spacious and filled with cars. Here is a tour….
Let’s start with this 1975 Civic CVCC, which stands for Compound Vortex Combustion Controlled. It just so happens this was the first car to meet the 1975 U.S. Clean Air Act Standards. Then in 1977 it met the U.S. EPA’s first ever list of the most fuel efficient cars in America. As you can see, Honda thinking green didn’t just happen in the late 2000’s.
Now fast forward to the 2012 Honda Civic SI, after all, being completely green isn’t for all of us. The new civic offers a 2.4 liter, 16 valve, DOHC i-VTEC engine, which gives you 201 hp and 170ft lbs of torque which is a 20% increase in torque over the previous SI motors. Keep in mind this is the SI and you are trading some mpg for fun, but you are still getting a decent 22mpg city and 33mpg highway.
Here Honda is showing you what most of us already know. Almost every Honda when modded correctly can look stunning. They showcased this 4 door SI lowered on Rotiform wheels and one of the most flawless vinyl wraps I have seen in person. The flat silver definitely was the right color choice.
Lets not forgot, it’s still a Honda which means there is always some practicality! Here are some fancy Recaro seats for little ones in the back.
Another showcased Civic in the booth was the Compass360 Racing HPD 2 door. This car was built for the SCCA Pro World Challenge and uses a 250hp K24 and fully built suspension to whip it’s way around the track. Not exactly green, but it isn’t exactly driven everyday.
There was also this 2 door chassis display showing all of the performance upgrades you can get through Honda Performance Development. Brake cooling ducts, tow hooks, springs and roll bars, just to name a few.
Here is another 2-door SI but with a twist. This one was designed by the band members of Blink 182.
Moving on from the Civic to one of Hondas newest pieces of technology, the CRZ. A peppy, fun and good looking hybrid. This car definitely shows Honda’s interest in making sure green doesn’t mean boring. This particular one is sporting 1 of the 300 Mugen packages designed for the CRZ. If lucky enough to get one of these packages your CRZ would be dressed in a full body kit, spoiler, wheels, shift knob, oil fill cap and floor mats. All of course designed by Mugen. You will also receive a plaque showing what number your package is out of the 300.
Another CRZ in the booth was the Hybrid R. With its upgraded body styling, 19″ wheels and GT wing, this car is definitely a head turner.
Some other upgrades would be the inter-cooled turbocharged 1.5 CRZ motor under the hood, bigger brakes and better cooling, lowered and tuned suspension and a Limited Slip Differential. Unfortunately the Hybrid R is only a concept at this time. I’m sure we are not alone in saying we hope production is in the works!
Here is another showcased concept. A supercharged version of the 1.5 CRZ motor built by HPD. This little guy makes an impressive 200 hp while still thinking green!
To finish off the Honda booth lets look at a car, that has thrown green out the window in pursuit of pure adrenaline.
The Bisimoto Civc SI has sitting in it a fully built K24, with the accompanied 72mm Turbonetics turbocharger this thing makes a jaw dropping 1002hp. Obviously it takes more then a big turbo to properly reach 1000hp but there is not enough room in this article for a list of mods that size.
As you can see Honda has it all. With cars and technology from both ends of the spectrum, Honda’s SEMA booth is always a joy to tour.
